Napa Public Safety and City Hall Facilities

The City Council and City project team would like your input on the project alternatives.

Project Need

Our current City Hall was built in 1952 when the population of Napa was 14,000 - our population has now increased to nearly 80,000 residents. City services and staff have grown to respond to the needs of the new residents, but City Hall and Public Safety facilities have not kept up.

The Current Facilities are Undersized and Inefficient:

  • Continuing need to lease additional space

  • Ill-suited to City needs and spread out over multiple sites –impacting day-to-day operations and customer service

The Current Facilities have Poor Resiliency and Increasing Operating Costs:

  • City owned facilities do not meet modern building codes and lack seismic resiliency needed for disaster response and recovery

  • Increasing cost to operate, repair, maintain at public expense

  • Lack technology and energy efficiency

Project Timeline

  • On September 17, 2019 the City Council chose the Downtown area where current City buildings are located as the site for a future Downtown Public Safety and City Hall campus.

  • On November 19th, the City Council meeting chose to move forward with options that prioritize new City Hall and Public Safety facilities and alternatives for Fire Station 1, and exploring phasing.

  • On January 21, 2020 City Council will review a staff recommendation on project alternatives and financial plans and recommend next steps on the project.
